Iowa American Water has an exciting, full-time opening for a
Maintenance Relief Operator to join our team in Davenport. This
role services both our water and wastewater plants in the area and
handles the day-to-day routine and preventantive maintenance of
equipment. As the Maintenance Relief Operator, you will work
closely on feed pumps, motors, valves, and more. On occassion, this
person will also serve as a plant operator and help oversee the
treatment process at the plant. This role ensures that our plants
run smoothly and continously move clean and safe water to our local
residents and the community.
Maintains and repairs machinery, equipment, physical structures,
piping and other operating systems in water treatment and pumping
- Visually inspects and tests machinery and equipment.
- Listens for unusual sounds from machines or equipment to detect
malfunction and discusses machine operation variations with
supervisors or other maintenance workers to diagnose a problem or
- Dismantles defective machines and equipment and installs new or
- Cleans and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears and other parts
- Installs and repairs monitoring and water quality
- Assembles, installs and maintains pipe systems and related
hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, and repairs and replaces gauges,
valves, pressure regulators and related equipment.
- Operates, monitors, adjusts and calibrates chemical feed
- Operates and monitors all treatment facilities as needed.
- Maintains written and computer record of operations.
- Attends company training or outside training classes as
- Performs other duties assigned.
- Advanced knowledge and related experience in the maintenance
and repair of machinery, process control and instrumentation.
- Must have basic knowledge of electricity.
- Knowledge of safety concerns associated with electrical,
electronic, machinery and chemical applications.
- High school diploma or state recognized Educational Equivalency
- Associate of Science degree accepted.
- Two (2) years experience in machine and instrument maintenance
and repair, including vocational education, apprentice training,
in-plant training, on-the-job training or essential experience.
Shifts/schedules subject to change when serving as an Operator.
- Monday-Friday, 7am-3:30pm
- The Operator schedule will vary including a day shift
(7am-3:30pm), 2nd shift (3pm-11pm) and swing shift.
