As the Supervisor Bridge Inspection Vehicle you have a key role in completing annual bridge inspections and meeting our regulatory requirements.


  • This position can be based out of St. Paul, MN, La Crosse, WI, Dubuque, IA, Mason City, IA or Davenport, IA;
  • Responsible for efficient, safe operation of bridge inspection vehicle (BIV) at locations as assigned across the CP US system;
  • Operation, inspection, and maintenance of Bridge Inspection Vehicle (BIV) in accordance with appropriate safety, CP business and regulatory requirements;
  • Assists with execution of bridge inspection and maintenance work by operation of the BIV as directed by the Manager Bridge Maintenance and other territory Engineering Officers;
  • Ensures schedule is developed and maintained on an annual basis to maximize operation of the BIV and to meet the bridge inspection schedule required for operations;
  • Assists with the maintenance of records (files, assessments, reports) when inspections are suspended;
  • Ensure the timely completion of all Structures related inspections that require the BIV to execute;
  • Establishes/maintains relationships with their Engineering counterparts on their geographic territory;
  • Required to request and obtain all necessary track authorities to conduct on-track bridge inspections.


  • High School Diploma or GED required;
  • Qualification as a bridge inspector or ability to become qualified as a Bridge Inspector in accordance with CPR Bridge Maintenance Program;
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in bridge inspection, maintenance or construction;
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience operation commercial vehicle and boom or crane operation experience is preferred;
  • Current OTS and GCOR qualified;
  • Attend Aspen Aerials Service School and receive certification for Bridge Inspection Vehicle manufacturer's operation and maintenance course;
  • Valid "Class A" CDL License to operate Bridge Inspection Vehicle;
  • Ability to inspect bridges at heights;
  • Computer skills and experience with spreadsheets and word processing required.
