Job Description Job Description Orthopedic Hand Surgeon Position
Summary The Orthopedic Hand Surgeon provides comprehensive
evaluation, surgical, and non-surgical treatment of conditions
affecting the hand, wrist, and upper extremity. This role includes
management of traumatic injuries, degenerative conditions,
congenital abnormalities, and work-related or repetitive-use
disorders. The surgeon works collaboratively with multidisciplinary
teams to deliver high-quality, patient-centered orthopedic care.
Key Responsibilities Evaluate and treat disorders of the hand,
wrist, and upper extremity Perform elective and emergent surgical
procedures within the scope of hand surgery Manage traumatic
injuries, including fractures, tendon, nerve, and soft tissue
injuries Provide non-operative care such as injections, splinting,
and rehabilitation planning Interpret diagnostic imaging and test
results Develop and implement individualized treatment plans
Participate in call coverage for hand and upper-extremity trauma as
required Collaborate with therapists, advanced practice providers,
and referring physicians Educate patients and families regarding
conditions, treatment options, and recovery Maintain accurate,
timely, and compliant medical documentation Participate in quality
improvement, patient safety, and clinical education activities
Practice Setting Hospital and outpatient clinic settings Elective
and urgent surgical care environments May include trauma or
emergency department consult coverage Qualifications MD or DO from
an accredited medical school Completion of an accredited Orthopedic
Surgery residency Fellowship training in Hand Surgery (orthopedic
or plastic surgery–based) Board certified or board eligible in
Orthopedic Surgery Eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in
the practicing state DEA registration or eligibility Skills &
Competencies Advanced surgical expertise in hand and
upper-extremity procedures Strong clinical judgment and
decision-making skills Excellent communication and interpersonal
abilities Commitment to evidence-based, patient-centered care
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced surgical environment
Work Environment Orthopedic surgical practice Multidisciplinary,
team-based care model Diverse patient population with a wide range
of hand and upper-extremity conditions
