Job Description & Requirements - Specialty: Med Surg - Discipline: RN - Start Date: 02/16/2026 - Duration: 13 weeks - 36 hours per week - Shift: 12 hours, nights - Employment Type: Travel Job Description American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro Med-Surg Acute position requiring Level 1 trauma and neuro unit experience at a leading Illinois facility. Responsibilities - Work in a 54-bed Neuro Med-Surg Acute unit within an acute care setting - Care for patients with stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, head injury, and neuroscience diagnoses, with some medical overflow - Day shift nurse-patient ratios 1:4-5, night shift ratios 1:5-6 - Heparin drip titration required; must have heparin gtt experience - High flow O2 used for stable COVID patients only (rarely); house-wide telemetry with no required strip reading by RNs - Uses Epic EMR; prior experience preferred - Phillips monitors are utilized on the unit - 12-hour night shifts with every other weekend and holiday required - Floating required within general unit rotation and to other units based on competency, with supportive assignment procedures - No on-call or standby responsibilities - Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including a 24/7 charge nurse, house supervisor, and patient care techs - Unit orientation consists of 2 days including computer and unit-specific training with an educator and preceptor support - No scrub color requirement; all tattoos must be covered while on duty and only ear piercings are allowed - Holiday and weekend coverage is scheduled every other rotation - COVID vaccination not required - Local candidates accepted with local rate applicable for those residing within 50 miles Requirements - Active IL RN license required at time of consideration - Minimum 1 year of RN experience - Prior Level 1 trauma center experience required - Previous travel nursing experience required (no first time travelers) - Prior experience in a dedicated neuro unit required - Current BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required - Must be able to titrate and manage heparin drips - Epic EMR experience preferred Benefits - High Pay and Bonuses - Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options - 401(k) Plan - Weekly Payroll Deposit - Free Online CEUs - Generous Housing Allowance - Travel and Licensure Reimbursements - Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy - Traveler Rewards and Discounts American Traveler Job ID P-663423.
