Job Description:
The University of Iowa Department of Emergency Medicine at
University of Iowa Health Care invites recent graduates and
experienced faculty to apply for available Pediatric Emergency
Medicine and Adult Emergency Medicine faculty positions within our
expanding department. Successful candidates will join our team in
providing patient-focused clinical care, education at all levels,
and clinical research/scholarship. Appointment rank may be at the
Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor level and to
either the tenure track or clinical (non-tenure) track consistent
with clinical experience and research interest. Opportunities exist
for involvement in Pediatric Emergency Medicine, EMS, Ultrasound,
Research, Toxicology, Hospice and Palliative Medicine, Critical
Care, Sports Medicine, Global Medicine, Social Medicine, plus many
more. The University of Iowa Health Care Medical Center, University
Campus and the Stead Family Children’s Hospital are the state’s
only comprehensive academic medical center and a Level 1 Pediatric
Trauma Center offering complete medical and surgical specialty
coverage including an inpatient child psychiatry unit. Stead Family
Children’s Hospital is consistently ranked among the nation’s best
in multiple pediatric specialties by U.S. News & World Report. The
Department of Emergency Medicine oversees robust clinical,
educational, and research programs including an Emergency Medicine
residency program, core and advanced medical student clerkships,
multiple fellowship programs, and the University of Iowa AirCare. A
new pediatric ED is currently under construction and will open this
Fall. Our new space will have 13 beds including two dedicated
pediatric trauma/resuscitation rooms and a procedure room as well
as a separate waiting area for pediatric patients and their
families. It has an annual volume of 12,000 pediatric patients,
excellent resident physician coverage as well as APP support. The

Qualifications (all candidates): Applicants must have an MD or DO
degree (or equivalent). Position requires completion and an
ACGME-accredited training program. Pediatric EM Applicants must be
board eligible, or board certified in Pediatric Emergency Medicine
by the American Board of Emergency Medicine or the American Board
of Pediatrics; or be dual board certified in Emergency Medicine by
the American Board of Emergency Medicine and in Pediatrics by the
American Board of Pediatrics at the time of hire. General/Adult
Emergency applicants must be BC/BE by ABEM at the time of hire .
The selected candidate for the position must be eligible to obtain
or already hold an active Iowa medical license. Desired
Qualifications: Formal fellowship training to include P ediatric
Emergency Medicine, EMS, Ultrasound, Research, Toxicology, Hospice
and Palliative Medicine, Critical Care, Sports Medicine, Global
Medicine , and Social Medicine plus other pertinent programs .
Prior academic experience in Emergency Medicine training programs.
Prior teaching experience in the medical sciences, post graduate
level. Prior research experience/scholarship in Emergency Medicine
or the health sciences. Demonstrated experience providing patient
focused care as a member of a multi-disciplinary team. Effective
interpersonal and written communication skills and a strong
commitment to academic medicine. Professional experience working
effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and
