Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Cardio-Thoracic Surgery Duration: 20 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 8 hours Experience: Minimum two years of relevant nursing experience License: State RN License in good standing Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: BSN Description: As a member of the interdisciplinary team, you will contribute professional nursing knowledge and skills in the provision and management of care to patients through the application of the nursing process. You will promote the use of evidence-based practice through protocols and procedures. Develop individualized plans of care using a collaborative approach with patients and families. Assess patients' status through interviews, observation, and physical assessments of actual problems and outcomes. Use appropriate interventions identified in the plan of care to achieve expected patient outcomes. Systematically evaluate and document patient progress toward expected outcomes on an ongoing basis. Complete required documentation as appropriate, including patient charts and event reports. Modify care plans based on evaluations and changes in patient condition as needed. Demonstrate professional accountability for your practice through seeking resources and continued self-development. Acquire and maintain current knowledge and skills in evidence-based nursing practice. Demonstrate technical knowledge of equipment and troubleshoot when problems arise. Promote the professional development of yourself and team members. Share clinical knowledge through informal teaching and in response to the learning needs of others. Demonstrate a practical problem-solving approach to patient moving and handling issues. Possess knowledge and skills necessary to obtain adequate lab specimens for testing. Perform patient bedside lab testing and associated quality control in compliance with medical provider orders and hospital procedures. Coordinate interdisciplinary care of patients through collaboration with team members and utilize additional resources when necessary. Analyze clinical situations systematically and act to obtain resources or correct problems to meet or exceed expected outcomes. Recognize the need for assistance and utilize resources, including physician consultations in a timely manner. Demonstrate ownership and persistence to ensure problems are resolved effectively. Assume assignment of non-complex and some complex patient management with some turnover in assignment. Prioritize work based on changes in patient condition, assignment changes, and unanticipated interruptions. Identify and utilize team resources to solve identified problems or needs. Collaborate with the healthcare team in the organization of tasks and activities for patients' care from admission to discharge. Provide focused shift reports. Work with team members in delegating tasks and activities appropriately. Advocate with physicians on patients' behalf when necessary. Assess and choose teaching strategies appropriate to patients' and families' needs. Consider cultural, age-specific, and developmental factors when educating patients about procedures, illness, and the hospital experience. Adapt teaching strategies based on patients' responses, readiness to learn, and levels of comprehension.
