Environmental Engineer
Iowa Fertilizer Company (IFCo) is looking for an Environmental Engineer to join our Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) team in Wever, Iowa. This individual will have direct responsibility for coordinating and maintaining company policies adhering to local, state, and federal environmental, health, and safety regulations. This position is key to ensuring compliance with the Clean Water Act (CWA), RCRA, Clean Air Act (CAA), and Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) programs.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESAt a minimum, tasks will include, but are not limited to:

  • Develops and continuously improves environmental systems and procedures.
  • Oversees permit amendments (including but not limited to PSD Construction permits and Title V Operating Permit).
  • Leads Environmental Incident Investigations (process upsets, spills, Reportable Quantity events, deviations).
  • Communicates with agencies on a routine basis and facilitates site visits.
  • Maintains environmental records in compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Manages remediation for site spills and/or addresses environmental issues.
  • Manages waste for the site.
  • Oversees semi-annual reporting for Title V deviation report and LDAR monitoring report. Manages annual reporting activity including but not limited to: Tier II, Greenhouse Gas Report, Toxic Release Inventory, and Emissions Inventory Questionnaire.
  • Oversees stack testing and annual RATAs.
  • Oversees permit deviations and recordkeeping.
  • Routinely performs and documents site RCRA, storm water, SPCC inspections, and visible emission checks.
  • Trains employees in the areas of safe chemical handling, spill control, and pollution prevention and keeps up-to-date training records. Trains plant personnel to ensure compliance with all environmental permits.
  • Provides prompt reporting of any reportable environmental spills or releases.
  • Keeps up-to-date records of all required monitoring data and activities.
  • Participates in compliance audits and tracks the status of any issues.
  • Supports other environmental colleagues with daily activities; acts as on-call alternate with other HSE personnel.
  • Support capital projects and process engineering activities.
  • Follows all relevant company policies and procedures.
  • Maintains a valid driver's license. Always ensures HR has a copy of a current, valid license on file.
  • Other duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONSEducation
    • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science or Engineering required.
    • E. certification is a plus.Experience and Skills
      • 2+ years' experience supporting environmental compliance in the chemical industry or other industrial manufacturing, or analytical laboratory or environmental consulting environment. Fertilizer manufacturing experience is a plus.
      • Proficient understanding of environmental regulations related to manufacturing operations.
      • Experience working with environmental permits and compliance.
      • Experience or knowledge of wastewater analysis is a plus.
      • Strong adherence and knowledge of industry safety standards. Active participation in ongoing development of safety improvement plans and training of staff.
      • Proven ability to function within a project team.
      • Ongoing ability to drive a creative problem-solving culture that can promptly adjust to challenging situations.
      • Patience and positive attitude maintained when interacting with managers, co-workers, staff, production employees, contractors, suppliers, customers, and community organizations.
      • Earn and keep the trust and respect of individuals at all levels, by building strong relationships that focus on supporting IFCo's mission and values.
      • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, TEAMS, PowerPoint).
      • Excellent time management skills. Ability to work independently, multi-task, and prioritize work to meet targets and deadlines.

        • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
        • Bending, kneeling, lifting up to 50 pounds.
        • Wearing a respirator when/where required to perform inspections/job duties.
        • Industrial chemical plant environment.
        • Ability to climb straight ladders. Some work may require heights in excess of 100 feet.
        • Confined space entry may be required.
